I have always disliked store-bought Valentines. I don't know why...maybe it's because they are too easy, and as you can tell, I don't usually like the easy route. Maybe it is because in the old days, there used to be so much thought and effort put in to making Valentines, and that is lost in today's busy world and 25 kids/class parties. Anyhow, I was planning on doing heart-shaped brownies in clear bags stapled with a cute topper card that my daughter (1st grade) could help me make. She does enjoy working on creative projects with me. The problem: Her school, like many others, is trying to ban homemade goods. I don't know if they don't trust the sanitary conditions of people's kitchens or want all of that high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils, but alas, food for birthday and holiday parties, is now supposed to be store-bought.
I found this idea at Martha Stewart kids--it may solve my dilemma. It looks fairly simple, and my daughter should be able to do most of the work. A happy compromise between home-made and store-bought. We will be sure to take pictures!
