"School's Out for Summer" Breakfast

I saw this idea a while ago on Emily's blog (check out her cool Eiffel Tower pancakes!). I have been wanting to do this with my kids, but was waiting for the opportune moment. Kira finished first grade yesterday, and with no where to be this morning, it seemed like the perfect time to celebrate!
These are really pretty easy to do if you have a squeeze bottle. I found this "mustard" bottle and its ketchup counterpart together at the Dollar Spot in Target. I had to cut the opening a little more, so the pancake batter could flow easily. (I used a good mix from Fresh & Easy).
You "draw" the outline of your design and let it cook for a minute before filling it in with batter. My first attempt, the sun, broke in the flipping process, so I wouldn't recommend a design with a lot of appendages.

I made the sun and a beachball for me (not the best of the lot). Kira got a flower and a flip-flop. Trenton got a rocket ship and an alien space ship. He isn't unhappy in this picture. He is actually making spaceship sounds! These were a big hit!

And as if that weren't enough, we made Orange Julius to drink! This has quickly become a favorite. My mom used to make this for us, and I always thought it tasted better than the ones you could buy at the mall. Here is her recipe:

Orange Julius

MIX together in blender and blend well:

1 (6 0z.) can frozen orange juice concentrate

1/4 to 1/2 C sugar

1 C water

1 C milk

1/2 t. Vanilla

16 to 20 ice cubes

BLEND on high for a few minutes until ice is finely blended.

SERVE immediately.
