So my little sister is about ready to pop with baby #2 (a boy), and I was looking for ideas because I really should (read: might get to it before Christmas) do something to welcome her bundle of joy. Martha has this slide show of homemade baby gifts. That is where I found this, which has nothing to do with my nephew (Sorry, Shanda!). My brain is stuck decorating my new house, and I am doing it all mentally first because I don't want to mess it up and I don't have the funds/time to do it all at once. Anyway, I love the idea of finding a beautiful patterned fabric and making matching quilts for my daughters' beds. I love the way this quilting technique looks!So this brings me to my all important question, as I am hoping to tackle window treatments and re-upholstery soon, with my mom (the sewing genius!)...where is the best place to find deals on beautiful fabrics??? Come on all of you crafty people, share your secrets with me!

And as for finding good prices on fabulous fabrics, I always go to Etsy first. I've found some great sellers with prices better than the big chain stores (Joann's, etc) and have never been disappointed. Try there (and be sure to look at any you find that were designed by Amy Butler, she's my favorite fabric designer!)

I agree with Craft Junkie...Etsy is a great place to start. Or, if you have in your town a second hand fabric store. That is usually where the mills will send the fabrics that were just "a bit" off in either the color or the pattern. Most times it is hard to see what is wrong with the fabric. This is usually where I find fabric. But of course even though I live in a huge city I have to go back home to Springfield MO, to find what I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteThank you, both. In all of my browsing at Etsy, I didn't realize they sold fabric. I also found a local place with tons of fabric. Some at $1 and $3/yard. Although the A/C doesn't work so well there, so I may have to let it cool off before I go back. Any other suggestions are still appreciated!
