Spreading the word...

I am not personally connected to any of the victims of a private plane crash here in Arizona, but feel compelled to pass along the word and request prayers and assistance for those involved and their families. Stephanie Nielson is a young wife and mother from Mesa, who has a lovely, creative blog. She and her husband were seriously injured in the crash. Her husband's flight instructor, Doug Kinneard, was killed. Stephanie's sister is keeping updates posted on her blog, as well as a list of things people can do to help.

This has been on my mind an awful lot. I think part of the reason is that Stephanie seems like someone I want to know. I relate to her creative ideas and desire to celebrate each day. And reading through her blog makes me want to be a better wife and mother and enjoy the journey a little more.

I think the other reason is that this tragedy is eerily similar to one around seven years ago in Prescott that did involve several people we were connected to. My husband lost a good friend in that accident and we know of the suffering of all of the families involved there.

So if you have a minute to offer a prayer for the Nielson and Kinneard families, please do. If you feel compelled to do more, visit the family website to donate or to learn about the balloon release planned for Saturday.

  1. I have followed Nie Nie's blog for a while, and this accident has had a profound effect on me...I too have four very young children, and I share Nie's faith. It is amazing how people we've never met can effect us so much. I pray for her and her husband's recovery. Thanks for posting this.

  2. Small world. Again, partly because of the Prescott situation, I was drawn to this story, looked up Nie Nie's blog, got totally sucked in and scrolled through several posts until I recognized my friend Chris in one of the pictures. It turns out he's Steph's brother. He's married to my friend Lisa and we were all in some very silly plays together when we were in college. It makes the situation all the more poigniant to me, and I truly hope the best for this family. Thanks for sharing this.

  3. Wendy, I'm LDS, as well. Another reason this hits so close to home. It is amazing the far-reaching effects this is having.

Trina, I'm not surprised to see a degree of separation with you here. When I heard she had family in Provo, I thought it quite likely that you had some connection. Her blog really does draw you in, doesn't it? I keep checking for updates.

  4. Thanks for sharing, I got sucked in as well. What a blog and what a situation, I have been thinking a lot about their family. As for your question about paint on my blog...I use Krylon H20 spray paint a lot for furniture. It's a latex paint and thicker and smoother than reg. spray paint. I also love the vintage look so I sand the edges and don't care too much if it comes off a little in places. But, for the table I painted, I used the leftover blue from the wall, so it just depends on what I have or what I'm painting. Hope that helps.
