...has a lot of fun memories!
I really don’t have time to be blogging right now. I am in the middle of all kinds of blog-worthy projects. My miracle workers (a.k.a. parents) are in-town, helping me attack an insane amount of home improvement/décor projects for the next week, or so. On top of that, my daughter’s first birthday party is on Saturday. There are so many things I want to post. They just may have to wait, until some of these projects are under control. (Allison, I promise to do a more detailed post about Gourmet Group soon!)
Then I saw that Tip Junkie was asking for family costume ideas, and I just had to post, because, let’s face it—I have been a little insane about our Halloween costumes, historically, and I had to share!
I have to thank my mother (miracle worker) for sewing most of these costumes, and my husband for being a good sport, without both of them, these would never have been possible! Now without further ado...
Our Family Costume Parade:
This may be the one that started it all! For some reason, my daughter decided she had to be a lamb for Halloween one year. My mother obliged by making her a costume, and before long, my ideas for a family grouping were realized. I am Little Bo Peep. Kira is the Little Lamb and Barry is The Big Bad Wolf.
Kira wanted to be Snow White the following year. My son was less than two months old, so we made him one of the dwarfs. (In this picture he is definitely Sleepy, but he took turns being Grumpy and most of the other dwarfs, throughout the night). We tacked the beard to the shirt, which worked perfectly since his chin was always down. I am the wicked queen, and my husband is the woodsman.
Then Kira wanted to be Cinderella (why does she always get to choose?) I found this cute pumpkin costume for my son, and I was the fairy Godmother. (Barry was out of town, so off the hook, this year).
Last years’ planning was a little complicated by the arrival of my Tessa. We ended up with two mini-groupings. My son was an astronaut and my daughter a sassy alien. (It’s about time he got to choose, huh!) I was still in the hospital when they went to the party at church (BIG thanks to my sister for getting them ready!)
Tessa and I went to Gourmet Group about a week after she was born, and she had to wear the costume I made for her while I was awaiting her arrival. I went as a gardener and she was my prized peony. Her costume was pretty easy to make. I knitted the hat (easy on a round loom) out of green fuzzy yarn. We bought a onesie and tights and dyed them green, and I bought a giant peony, cut off the stem and stitched it to the cap. Being a gardener is easy if you have a pair of old overalls, gloves and a hat. She was the hit of the party!
We are working on a Narnia theme for this year. I will let you know if we pull it off.
Don’t forget to enter my first ever GIVEAWAY here. It’s open until Sunday pm.
All the costumes are fabulous but I think the gardner and peony are my favorite. Just so sweet!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have the best imagination! What great costumes!
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic costumes ideas! Thanks for sharing- My mom is my miracle worker too with the sewing machine. What would we do without our parents? Good luck tackling your projects.

WE used to dress up in couple themes before the kids came along. Ever since then it's been a bit of a hodge-podge and we can't get the girls to agree to matching costumes. This year The Frog Princess will be Malificent and Mini-Saurus will be Aurora (aka Sleeping Beuaty) I don't think my hubby and I will be anything other than the paparazzo, the tired and haggard kid handlers, and the wagon pulling processional!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is a good sport... I'm still working on mine, and we don't have kids yet! :)
ReplyDeleteLove all of those ideas, so cute!
If you pull off Narnia I want pictures!!!! PLEASE!! I'd love to see that. you're full of great ideas. One of the best I've seen yet far.
ReplyDeleteHey! Did Annaliese (White) Gove tell you we went to Elementary and Middle school together?? She was reading my blog last night and saw my blog crush post about you and was flabbergasted!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that crazy??? What a small world, eh??
What fabulous Halloween photos.
ReplyDeleteI love that u all dress as a theme.
Very creative.
Oh Kendra, you're to die for funny! I'm sending this to my girlfriend in Oregon who has a cute family that gets in to the costume spirit! Thanks for the pics.
ReplyDeleteYou have such great costume ideas!
ReplyDeleteCarrie,
ReplyDeleteIt really is the craziest of small worlds, isn't it!?! Annaliese and I were involved in a lot of arts stuff together back in the day! I'm just getting reconnected with a lot of people from my past.
Thanks everyone, for the kind commments. We are still trying to nail down Narnia. The kids are mostly figured out, but it is harder to decide what the adults are going to be. I'm open to suggestions, and will definitely keep you posted!
ReplyDeleteSuch clever costumes! I am so behind on my son's costume - need to add that to today's To Do List!
