Teacher Gifts--what are you doing?

This afternoon is pretty much the only chance I will have to help my kids make gifts for their teachers before they are out for Christmas break. But what to make? What to make?
Last year I made these scrabble tile pendants featuring the kids' artwork. They were a big hit, but I don't have the supplies this year (nor the stamina). I thought to make a set of pebble magnets (like these), except I would use kids' artwork again. But my printer is out of ink...and paper.

Then I saw this idea, on my friend, Becky's blog:
It looks so doable for the kids, and not time consuming at all! Only, it requires a trip with three kids to the store to buy candles and Epsom salts. And after a horrific shopping trip at Savers with my youngest, only yesterday, I have sworn off shopping with children (is that possible?).

So should we brave Walmart? Or does anyone else have any other great ideas, that might not require a trip to the store? What are you doing?

P.S. You might want to look at the posts at Design Mom where she shows the gifts her children are making for eachother. She has some fun ideas, that might work for teacher gifts, too.

  1. Kendra, I can't help you out with the candles but I have LOTS of Epsom salts left over if you need them :)

Thanks for featuring my idea on your awesome blog!

  3. I'm making homemade bread....and lots of it. About 22 loaves. Other ideas here: http://moneysavinghabits.com/2009/12/15/gifts-from-the-heart/

Good luck finding something that you have all the supplies for. That's what stops me from many projects too.

  4. I ditched the homemade gifts this year and opted for the Barnes and Noble gift certificate! LOL! Yes, I'm lazy I know. I just don't have the time to make anything.

  5. I found a "panel" at Joanns for a "green, environmentally friendly bag" so I purchased two of those and stitched them up. We loaded the bags with homemade spag sauce, homemade applesauce, homemade jam, pasta, parm cheese, homemade banana nut bread, french bread, and an ornament that I purchased last year on clearanace after Christmas. I think the teachers will enjoy the gift.

  6. I made picture frames and personalized note cards for her teachers and pumpkin bread for the assistants. I think next year I'll "steal" your idea for the art work pendant.

  8. I gave my son's teachers paper ornaments that I covered in German Glass glitter. It was really easy and still personal. My son is 3, so this was his first year with teachers!
