Life is a Highway--Car's Party Post

Last year, around this time, my friend, Jennifer, asked me for some ideas for a car-themed birthday she was throwing for her 4-yr.-old son. That inspired this post, full of fun "High-octane" party ideas.

She ended up throwing a fabulous party that my kids and I got to attend, and I took lots of pictures intending to blog about it, but never did until now...

...Because my SIL, is asking about ideas for a car-themed birthday for her 2 yr-old this month. And I really wanted her to see how Jennifer's party turned out.
You might recognize this wonderful hallway. It is the one you saw in Jennifer's gorgeous holiday home tour, and served as the rabbit hole for our "Alice in Wonderland" adventure/gourmet group dinner. Once again, she used it to full advantage here, making a road to lead to the party.
Complete with cut-outs of favorite Cars characters. One of my favorite things she did was hanging the checkered banners through-out the house and outdoors, where they made their box cars.
The McQueen cake was really cute. And she did a great job with all of the food and food display.
Though, I'm afraid my photo didn't do it justice. I loved how she used the road coverings on each surface. Here, she lined the food with tube lighting. My favorite, were the chocolate donuts stacked-up as Luigi's tires. They had fallen over by the time I took the picture. She also took my checkered sandwich idea, and did it with rice crispie treats. She just made some the normal way, and some with cocoa cereal, then set them out in a checkered pattern.
The kids had a great time making and wearing their "box-cars." Here is the birthday boy and my munchkins, cruisin' down the highway. Jennifer has a path in her back yard that made a great racetrack, once the cars were complete.

One more fun car idea I just saw here, today. Easy and sweet, so I'm sure it would be a big hit.

Get your parties linked up at the Party Party post, asap! I think MckLinky is going to stop taking links at some point tomorrow. Until he does, keep adding your fabulous parties! I'll be picking finalists later this week!

  2. Very fun! I threw a Cars party for my boy/girl twins last year for their 3rd Birthday and it was a hit...very popular was the tattoo table we labeled Ramone's House of Body Art and Michaels has wood cut out cars for $1 that the kids all colored. I hope to see photos from your SIL's party.
