Golf Get-Together (Father's Day Fun?)

I kind of glossed over Mother's Day with having a baby and all, but there is still time to give you some great ideas for Father's Day.

What does your man love? If he is anything like my man, you have all kinds of hobbies to choose from. Last year, mine was really excited about golf, so I gave him some golf-lessons for Father's Day. The following pictures are from his golf-themed birthday party, but there is no reason, you couldn't do a golf-themed Father's Day celebration.
If you recall, my husband had the bad judgement to be born just a few days before Christmas, so throwing any kind of birthday celebration for him is always a challenge. Between the holidays and pregnancy, we kept this party pretty simple, but you know me...I had to toss in a little insanity. It was actually a joint party for my husband and his brother (another December birthday). We sent them golfing with their buddies and then met in our backyard for some celebrating.
I was most excited about these cupcakes, I used chocolate chips, up-side-down, to look like the hole and green frosting and sanding sugar to represent the grass. I made white flags out of toothpicks and paper and stamped numbers on them (for the different holes).
I had found the fun plates on clearance at Target a while earlier. And their mom provided the sub sandwiches for everyone (thanks mom!).
Forgive the sloppy piping on this cake. I'm sure I was doing it very last minute. I used the Wilton ball pan to make my giant golf ball. I think I used store-bought frosting, which was a mistake when it came to trying to add the divots, with the end of a wide decorating tip. A good buttercream recipe (or I'm sure, fondant) would have worked much better. I did have fun with the sentiment though! It reads, "To a couple of guys who are way above par!" It's supposed to sound like a compliment, but in golf you want to be under par, so it could also be ribbing them about their golf game, which is what they do to each other, anyway.
For easy and inexpensive decorations, I just filled vases with tees and golf balls. I think these may have doubled as his birthday present.
And my daughter helped me throw together this pennant banner to match the flags in the cupcakes. (This is the one picture where the wind wasn't blowing it like crazy--unfortunately the tablecloth had to be taped down because of the wind)
Is he turning three again this year?
For fun, we gathered some empty containers and toys from the house and set-up a make-shift putt-putt course in the back yard for the kids to play with. If I had had more time, it would have been fun, to make that a big deal.
This wrapping is actually from Father's Day, last year. A golf party could be another reason to grow wheat grass as a centerpiece or other party decor. For more ideas on golf parties, check out this party by Donna of Party Wishes
