I was fortunate enough to be asked to host an Elmer's "Craft and Tell" party this month. They sent me a box loaded to gills with all kinds of crafting tools and goodies! My instructions were to CRAFT and then TELL you about it. (Well there were a few more instructions than that, but you get the point). Not only will I tell you about the fabulous party that we had, but Elmer's wants to give away more amazing prize packages to two of my readers! More details at the end of this post.
You know I work in themes and given the timing it seemed natural to focus on the guys for Father's Day. I also really wanted to include my daughter. She is old enough to do projects with now and loves the chance for a little creative expression, so we decided to make our party a Mother/Daughter party where we could work together on a few projects for the men/dads in our lives in time for Father's Day.
I finally jumped on the mustache bandwagon for the first time with this party. It just seemed to fit. In addition to our water cups (basic white party cups from the dollar store--I free-handed the various mustaches with a Sharpie marker), I used a large mustache on the invitation saying, "We {mustache} you to come to our Father's Day Craft and Tell Party." It may have taken them a minute to figure it out, but you get it, right?
My daughter's friend, knew just what to do with her cup! We had some POPcorn and milkDADs DUDs, as well as other delicious snacks that our guests brought to keep us crafting.
Each guest got to start with their own cutting mat, exacto knife, scissors (really nice and sharp!), glues and adhesives and these giant foam core blank cards--the perfect way to tell dad that you love him in a BIG way!
Here are some of the guests hard at work on their cards and here are just a couple of the awesome cards created by our mother/daughter duos (and trios)!
I also made some templates so that our guests could make the tie banner and/or gift bags I blogged about in my Tie-riffic Father's Day post.
I'm showing how we put together the original.
Here's Cindy tracing the ties. While her daughter diligently lays out her pattern.
It was fun to see the different combos that came together with the different paper choices.
I blogged about the shirt gift bags before, but I found blue lunch bags at Walmart this time, and it was fun to mix these up by using a colorful "shirt". I used the Elmer's glue dots to attach buttons to the lapels, which made for a really fun accent!
We were doing a really good job staying focused on our masculine theme, until Bethany (artist extraordinaire) discovered and fell in love with the Elmers Painters pens.
And they were just begging to be made into swirly flowery designs.
They are really fun to play around with! I loved this Father's Day card using the painters, because you can tell how opaque they are.
Notice her blond hair on top of the brown paper? So cute!
I was also pleasantly surprised by the gel pens. I've never had good luck with them in the past, but these rolled on smoothly and evenly, and most of them were sparkly.
So, again, sidetracked from the Father's Day projects, but lots of fun!
I wasn't able to get pictures of all of my guests' creations, but have been promised more pictures and plan to post them on my Facebook wall and link them up with Elmers, so everyone can see all of the fabulous things we were able to do with their fun products!
For more information on how we made the Tie Banner and the shirt gift bags, you can read this post. And now's your chance to get your own amazing set of crafting supplies from Elmers, including:

I will be selecting TWO winners randomly to receive one of these prize packages (must be US resident to win)! AND that is not all, I'm also going to select my favorite comment to get my bonus prize: A $7.00 Gift Card to Wendy's for some Frostys in honor of Wendy's Father's Day Frosty Weekend! 50 cents from each Frosty purchased will be donated to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption on Father's Day weekend (June 18 & 19). These donations will be used to benefit the cause of Wendy's Wonderful Kids, which is a program that helps foster children in need find great homes. (See the Frosty FB page for more info).
All you need to do is leave me a comment telling me what you are giving someone for Father's Day this year, or the favorite gift you have given for a Father's Day in the past. If you can't think of anything just say something like "I love your blog!" and I'll still enter you in the Elmer's drawing! I'll be picking the comment with my favorite gift idea to win the Wendy's card! Please make sure your email address is in the comment or set-up for replying to your comment! If I have to work too hard to find you, I'll pick someone else. I'll be selecting winners on Monday (June 20) so hurry!
Big thanks to Elmer's! We had a great time being creative together and everyone LOVED the great products!
What are you GIVING for Father's Day?
What fun ideas! Since my dad isn't much of a tie guy and doesn't really need anything, I had to come up with a different kind of gift idea. His favorite cookies are oatmeal raisin, so I'm sending some to him with a card that says "Thanks for doing such a good job 'raisin' me!"
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and all the idea's! I think my favorite fathers day gift was for my hubby on his first fathers day after we adopted our sweet girl! We went to simply pottery and had her feet and hand-prints done on a little plate and signed the back (she had a little help with this part since she was just a baby). I can still tear up when I see it. And we also made a scrapbook for hubby when she was 3 and he still looks at it often. I love hearing her tell him why she picked each picture of him and her. I think every time they look at the pictures she changes the reason why "this picture" is her favorite! Lol!
ReplyDeleteOriginally, I thought it might be kind of cheesy, but I made my husband a photo tie (courtesy of Arts Cow) with small pictures of the kids tiled in a repeat (does that make sense?). He gets lots of admiring comments everytime he wears it. Only problem is that it now is out of date since it doesn't include our youngest!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! I don't have any great creative gifts I've given, that's why I come to get ideas from your blog! ;)
ReplyDeleteMy dad is getting socks...he loves new socks. He told me once that if he won the lottery he would wear a new pair everyday, no repeats!
ReplyDeleteKendra, I had so much fun at your party :). Growing up we always gave my dad ties and hankies (do men even use handkerchiefs anymore?).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my husband has really loved his Father's Day present for the last few years. I use the self-timer on the camera and get a picture of me with all the kids that I put in a frame for him to take to work. He looks forward to a new one every year!
I so enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing all your ideas! This year's Father's Day theme at our place is ...baseball! I found an adorable baseball magnetic board to put on display along with super cute decorations I hope to blog about later. He'll receive some new baseballs and the word clouds we made with Wordle.com. My most incredible find was at Goodwill...a photo of the Mariners stadium on canvas! It had a few scratches on it that I touched up with a marker! He'll love it! Hopefully we'll all go down to the park to play ball after we eat some ballpark foods...peanuts, crackerjacks, etc!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have a craft party with your kids to make special Father's day gifts. We've been doing a lot of laminating on our Out of Office blog. May be a way to make the cards a keepsake.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these great ideas!
Great idea - father's day craft party! I love your shirt & tie gift bags.
ReplyDeleteI included it in a round up of tie-riffic Father's day ideas!

We are giving some awesome cards we made at the Craft and Tell! Thanks for inviting us!
ReplyDeleteI think the best gift I gave my husband for Father's Day was last year when our fourth child was born on Father's Day!
ReplyDeleteI love the tie banner!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite gift was a apron for hubby to were while grilling. First I embroidered it with "Hands Down -- You're the Best!" I then had the kids put their handprints all over it (very fun with a 6 month old).

What a fun crafting party...especially with all the great stuff from Elmer's! The finished products are so pretty and creative.
ReplyDeleteElectric pencil sharpener for his desk at home because he alway scomplains there is NEVER a sharp pencil around when you need one! Also the kids are going to sharpen all the pencils in the house. :) ~Cindy H
ReplyDeleteYour Elmer's party looks like it was such a blast! I would love to be able to throw one. My favorite father's day gift was for my husband's first father's day. I put my son's footprints on a tie. My husband wore that tie nearly every Sunday for about a year. He loved it too!
ReplyDeleteLet's see -- Love your blog -- {of course} and for Father's Day we give Dad the day totally off. No parenting duties what so ever -- so I am quite busy!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! We decided early on that we weren't going to buy presents but make them for Father's Day and Mother's Day. My favorite is I had my son (age 3) finger paint pages then we tore them into a sailboat scene and loosely glued (probably with elmers)so you could still see the edges. Then framed it in a shadow box. Daddy loved it, and 6 yrs later I still love it! dlandmesser (at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI'm giving my father a card with some lottery tickets!!! He is so hard to buy for!!! Thanks for doing the giveaway!

Our "basket" is a wheel barrow (an item he asked for) for him to "pop" wheelies, he'll be getting some "pop" culture graphic tees and an itunes give card for his "pop" tunes along with the standard pop tarts, tootsie pops, popcorn, pops root beer, pop chips, pop rocks and pop art photos of our boys! Love your blog! Thanks for sharing your fabulous ideas!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas!
ReplyDeleteMy dad has never been a great receiver of hand crafted items lol, but I did succeed one year with a fancy picnic breakfast and a sunrise hot air balloon ride for him and his wife:)
