This is a Flashback Friday--except it is a Thursday, because I wanted to give you a chance to do this on Friday if you so choose. It got the kids pretty good and wasn't too much work!

April Fools' Day Fun!
I wasn’t sure between pregnancy and my music classes that I teach on Thursdays whether I would be able to pull anything off, or not. Thankfully I got my husband on board to finish preparations while I taught, and I am happy to report that we got them! Doesn’t that cake look delicious?
How about this fruit juice?
Here’s my son trying to figure out why his juice won’t come up the straw...
Because it is Jell-O, of course!

We were lucky to have their aunts here to share in the fun! Amber blew out a candle since her birthday is coming. It took them longer than I expected to realize that their cake wasn’t sweet, after all. What really surprised me is that the kids thought we were nice enough to let them eat dessert for dinner!
The cross section reveals the layers of meatloaf, frosted with pink-tinted mashed potatoes.
We ran out of time, waxed paper, and freezer room to make the vanilla ice cream look like mashed potatoes and refreeze them, so we did the best we could as we served them. And by this point, they knew to be a little skeptical when we told them that they were getting more mashed potatoes and gravy for dessert. They were very happy to taste the caramel syrup “gravy” and realize that they would, in fact, have something sweet to eat!
We had a lot of fun! I saw so many different food ideas around the internet, I’m not sure which ones inspired mine. What did you do for April Fool’s? My daughter wants ideas for next year! (Paybacks?)

I'd like to do something like this mystery meal that my sister blogged about, this year. I know my kids would get a kick out if it! Do you have any plans?

I think I might just do this tomorrow!!! (Seriously... I think I can handle meatloaf, mashed potatoes and jello... not much else... but I digress!...) Happy April Fool's Day in advance!
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny idea, I told my husband about it and he ran over to the computer to read it for himself. Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDelete:) sweet idea! We'll have to add this to our arsenal [devious grin :}] This will be our best April Fool's Day ever!
ReplyDeleteThose were all really clever ideas. I especially loved the jello juice. :)
