My sister is expecting her #3, and in the nesting stage, trying to figure out what to do with bedrooms for her older children. We talked about doing a Curious George-themed nursery before her son was born, but didn't get the opportunity. She still thinks it would be a great theme for his "big boy" room, because it describes his personality so well.
This room is a lot the feel that I am imagining (via Poppytalk--click through for lots more cool pictures!). It is supposed to be more of a vintage circus theme, but I love the stripes and use of primary colors. They remind me of a lot of the patterns in the Curious George books. And it is the way I would approach Curious George. Rather than monkeys all over the room, I would take fun objects from the different books and copy their patterns and feel. For example, Large paint buckets could make great storage bins. A big yellow and white kite could be hung on the wall, or yellow and white striped fabric could be used for curtains or bedding.
This is a collage I put together of products from IKEA that could work in this space, along with book covers and other Curious George memorabilia. She will probably find old furniture on Craigslist and paint it, but there are some fun options from IKEA that could fill in the gaps. This would be a great place to install rain gutter bookshelves and display a collection of Curious George books.
What's your favorite character from childrens' literature? Could you design a cool kids room around it?
I love the idea. Great idea board too!
