I know I'm not the first person around blogland to do something like this, but when I found out that my sister was feeling a little down on her 30th b-day, I knew this belated gift would cheer her up!
I took a gift tin I had lying around and covered the outside with fun scrapbook paper. Inside, I used a brick (cut to shape) of dry floral foam covered with tissue gift paper. I had experimented with other ways to present the 30 suckers, namely clustering them like flowers, but I couldn't find a better way to make it sturdy enough to mail.
For fun and for visual appeal, I put the 30 suckers in 5 rows of 6 suckers in rainbow color order (or as close as I could get to it with the selection of pops {tootsie and blow} I had available).
My tag says "30 sucks! But you are great!"
I punched the circles out of paint swatches I had on hand, and added the number stickers. I hand wrote the rest of the sentiment.
For the record, I don't think 30 is really all that bad. In fact, the further away from it I get, the better it looks! AND I try not to use words like "sucks" too often in regular conversation--don't want my kids picking it up--but, the pun was too fun to pass-up this time. It did bring a smile to my sister's face!
I love this and will so be using your idea! I have a ton of friends who we are all turning 30 this year!!

it turned out great!
ReplyDeleteOn my 30th birthday, the best gift I got was from a girlfriend who did 30 items of 30 different gifts (I taught church Seminary that year, so she brought 30 doughnuts to my class, 30 buttons, 30 oz of jello, etc). It was really well thought out!
